Casa Maria This Friday!


Casa Maria sandwich making is this Friday, March 8th in the Parish Center. Come join us!  Kitchen opens at 5 PM. Come anytime after that! Please bring 1 or 2 dozen peeled eggs.

Note to parents: Casa Maria is community service for students! We can sign their forms!
                           
Please bring medium sized boxes for transporting the lunches.  Fruit boxes with handles from Costco or banana boxes are ideal.

Annoucements through March 10th

√ Reminder (using Fr. Smith’s recent computer metaphor): Collections of
staples for St. Michael’s Food Pantry and shoes for the Deacon’s Shoebox
(for families in Mexico) are always running in the background.” Bring items
anytime.

TAIZE MEDITATION PRAYER SERVICE WILL TAKE PLACE THIS
TUESDAY, MARCH 5 AT 6:45 PM IN CHURCH. ALL ARE INVITED.

√ Join the St. Michael’s team at TIHAN. Basic volunteer
training is at Grace st. Paul’s on Tuesday, March 12 from
 1- 5:30 PM. Cost is $17. This is the basic course for the 70
volunteer jobs at TIHAN. Speakers include our own Jon
Rinnander, Call 299-6647 and ask for Katie to receive the
registration forms.

√ Lenten Soup Suppers are held each Wednesday during
Lent at 6:30 PM at the House of Prayer. We will be viewing the
movie “The Passion of Christ” by Mel Gibson.
You are invited for a simple soup supper and then watch
segments of the film discussing Jesus response to the violence
done to him. The sessions are preceded by Evening Prayer at 6 PM.

√ WE ARE IN GREAT NEED OF 3 OR 4 MORE VOLUNTEERS TO
 HELP SERVE THE “POZ CAFÉ MEAL ON MARCH 21ST.
There are volunteer sheets to sign in the back of church. Please leave
your name and phone number. You will be contacted for further
information and any questions you might have will be addressed.
This is a wonderful Lenten service for those less fortunate and a way to put into
action…..your FAITH.

√ St. Michael’s Guatemala Project has issued its “Call for Summer Team
Volunteers” and is now accepting applications. Contact Ila Abernathy,
623-3063, ilaa@mindspring.com , for details. Basic information is on the
table in the back of church. We are also hoping to add an option for a
shorter-term, less wildly rigorous delegation in this, our 20th year of
association with rural Maya in Guatemala. Contact Ila if you are
interested in being part of a delegation.

√ Next Sunday, March 10th at coffee hours we will assemble migrant food
packs for Tucson Samaritans to give to travelers in distress in the desert.
Social Action Committee is buying supplies in bulk – more economical,
and everyone can keep the focus on bringing toiletries TIHAN (Tucson
Interfaith HIV-AIDS Network) If you would like to bring supplies for
Samaritans as well, March 10 ONLY, socks suitable for desert walking
are always needed, as are gallon jugs of water, pull top cans of chili or
begins for separate distribution, and pouches of refried beans (at Food
City). Jim S., Margie K. and Ila A. are Samaritans volunteers. Note:
You don’t have to have a final opinion about immigration in order to feed
the hungry or give a cold cup of water to a stranger.

√ TIHAN COLLECTION OF ESSENTIAL ITEMS FOR AROUND 80
PEOPLE LIVING WITH HIV/AIDS!
St. Michaels is sponsoring “Poz Café” on the 21h of March. We
are collecting toiletries to be handed out at the end of the meal.
We are looking for 80 donations of Shampoo, 80 donations of
Conditioner and 80 donations of deodorant. Regular or large sizes are
preferred. If you are able to help, there is the gold “treasure chest” in the
back of church where you may place your gifts. Gifts of toiletries and cash
 (or checks) may also be brought to the parish office up until Sunday, March 17th.

Announcements through February 23rd, 2013

YOU ARE INVITED TO ATTEND THE TAIZE SERVICE OF MEDITATION THIS TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 19TH AT 6:45 PM IN CHURCH. TAIZE MEDITATION SERVICES ARE HELD THE 1ST AND 3RD TUESDAYS OF THE MONTH AT 6:45 PM IN CHURCH.ALL ARE WELCOME!

Next week’s Special Collection will benefit TIHAN’S POZ Café. St. Michaels
commits to provide a meal every March. This year’s meal will be held on
March 21st.. Your generous donation next Sunday will cover the cost of the
meal as well as personal supply gifts to those in attendance at the meal. For
more info on TIHAN and the POZ Café and how St. Michaels supports HIV+
persons in the community please contact Tish Newell – 514-5182 or Jon

Lectionary Bible Study continues every Wednesday morning at
10:00 AM . The Bible Study is facilitated by our own Peter Schmidt
and takes place in the Womble Library. All are Invited to attend.

Women’s Bible Study continues each Wednesday evening in the
Parish Center at 6:30 PM. All women are invited.

Adult Education also continues each Sunday at 9:00 AM in the
Womble Library. Join us for lively discussions.

Announcements for Week ending January 19, 2013

NEXT SUNDAY ~ St. Michael’s Annual Parish Meeting which will take place at the 9:00 AM Mass with a Sunday Brunch to follow in the Parish Center. Please note there will be ONE Mass on this day.. This is a very important parish function with Vestry election and various parish reports. We need your input and support.

Parish Organizations – Note: Please submit a written yearly report of your organization’s activities to the Parish Office by Noon on Thursday, January 18th. Also if you would like to make an oral report during the meeting, please notify the Parish Office.

Attention ladies! It's that time of year again to get ready for
another exciting Women’s Bible Study. We are going to be
studying Anointed, Transformed and Redeemed with Beth
Moore, Kay Arthur and Priscilla Schiver. Sign up early and
reserve your copy for $15. We will start Jan 23 at 6:30 in the
Parish Center. See you there! Terri

Epiphany Gifts for Primavera – Hold the frankincense and myrrh.
During Epiphany, please fill the treasure chest in the back of the Church
with new socks and underwear, and new or gently used gloves, hats or
caps, sweatshirts, jackets and sweaters, for distribution to Tucson’s
homeless population by Primavera’s shelter and other programs. Send
gold to the Foundation any time.

There will be no Adult Education on January 20. On Sunday,
January 27 we will look at the life of Lanani Lawum recently
martyred Anglican Archbishop of Uganda.

On February 2, the United Nations Association is having a yard sale to
benefit the United Nation’s High Commission on Refugees. Donated
items may be left at the UN Store next to Bookman’s at Wilmot and
Speedway

This Friday night, December 7th, your St. Michael’s Singing Eagles will be performing at the Tucson Botanical Gardens at 6 pm in the Patio performance area. Taizé Service of prayer is this Tuesday, December 4rd. Taizé is offered the 1st and 3rd Tuesday each month at 6:45 pm. in church. All are invited to attend this beautiful Service of Prayer.

The new, improved downloadable Parish Directory is now ready! We've added listings for almost all parishioners, complete with address, phone and email if available. Please let us know of any changes or corrections, or to request a new picture of you for the directory. The file is password protected, so only parishioners will see your contact info. (Contact the church office if you still meed the password.) A date for additional picture taking will be announced soon. Thanks for your help!
