Michaelmas and The Messenger!
This Sunday, August 25th, we're celebrating Michaelmas, our patronal Feast of St. Michael! There will be just one Mass at 9:30 AM for this week only, preceded by Morning Prayer at 9 AM and followed by a festive brunch. Please plan on attending as Brother Dave Hedges celebrates his first Michaelmas with us.
_____
Hi, Everyone! It's a bit late, but I think you'll be pleased with our latest issue of The Messenger. At 12 pages, it's the biggest issue we've done, at least in my time working on it. (It turns out that the history of The Messenger goes back all the way to the 1950s!) In here you will find interviews with both Father Richard and Brother Dave, news and info on upcoming events, and even a love story! Happy Michaelmas! - K

The Messenger
The April 2011 issue of The Messenger is now available on this blog's sidebar (or by clicking the link in this sentence!). This is the first issue edited by yours truly, with the generous help of former editor Alicia Basemann who has recently retired. The version here incorporates two corrections in the first article, which had typos in the copy that was emailed earlier this week. Oops!
For future issues I'm hoping to revive a feature from a number of years ago, profiling a different parishioner each month. Any volunteers? This parish is full of people who have led interesting lives and given much back to God, the parish and the community. I, for one, want to know more about you all!
Also, I'm looking for your reminiscences and tributes about Father Fowler, whom I never met. His memorial service here will be on Saturday, April 30th at 11 AM. I'd like to be able to compile the parish's memories of our founding rector as a special supplement to the next issue of The Messenger. Please email me at mavarin2 at gmail.com, or to church@stmichael.net if you'd like to contribute to this effort, or to ilaa@mindspring.com in general. Thanks!

Opportunities for Giving
Today is the Second Sunday of Advent. Angel Tree tags are available for pick-up from the Christmas Tree at the back of church. Please be sure to sign the sheet on the usher’s table so that we will know what children’s names have been taken.
This year we have 33 children and will also be buying groceries for Christmas baskets for several of the families. I appreciate all the donations you have made in the past for the Angel Tree project. This year I need all the gifts returned to the office or brought to the tree no later than Sunday, December 21. Margie Doyle will be helping me with wrapping and delivery this year.
Please remember to include the tags for return if any of the items are the wrong size or color. Most stores will give these when the gift is purchased. For any of you who would like to participate but are unable to shop, let me know and I will be glad to take care of it for you.
May God Bless all of you during this wonderful time of the year. Please call me if you have any questions or have any problems with your gifts. Thanking you in advance for your generosity – Ancelyn Smith
