ANGEL TREE GIVING
Angel Tree tags are available for pick-up from the Christmas tree at the back of church. Please be sure to sign the sheet on the usher’s table so that we will know what children’s names have been taken.
This year we have approximately 35 children. You have been so generous with your gifts for the children. It is a real blessing for me to be involved. As usual, each child will receive a clothing gift and a toy … book ….game…etc. This year I need your gift, unwrapped, and returned to the office or brought to church no later than Sunday, December 13. Please remember to include the tags for return if any of the items are the wrong size or color. Most stores will give these when the gift is purchased. For any of you who would like to participate but are unable to shop, let me know and I will be glad to take care of it for you.

St. Michael’s Annual Thanksgiving Mass And Dinner – November 26th.
Mass will begin at 10:30 AM, followed by Thanksgiving dinner in the Parish Center at Noon. Turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, a vegetable and rolls will be provided. Just bring a simple side dish or a pumpkin pie to share. Sign-up sheets are in the back of church. You are invited to join us for a festive dinner and fellowship.

By studying the readings for the up-coming Sunday, you can better understand the texts and can be attuned to hear the sermon. The study meets in the Womble Library. ANGEL TREE GIVING
It is almost time for ANGEL TREE again. The tree will be up on Sunday, November 29th, the first Sunday in Advent. You have all been so generous with your gifts for the children. It is a real blessing for me to be involved. We will have approximately 35 children again this year. As usual, each child will receive a clothing gift and a toy….book….game…etc. Please sign the list so that I will know who has which child and return your gift, unwrapped, to the church no later than Sunday, December 13th. As always, I will be glad to do shopping for anyone wanting to choose a child, but unable to do the shopping. My thanks to each of you. Friday, October 2nd is Grandparent’s Day at St. Michael’s Parish Day School. The event is from 8 AM until 11 AM and involves being a surrogate grandparent for a child that does not have a grandparent attending on that day. There is an assembly and then visit the child’s classroom. There is a sign up sheet in the back of church for this event and also the schedule for the morning. Make a child happy – be a grandparent for a few hours.

USED CELL PHONE COLLECTION & FUNDRAISER! This summer our church is participating in a cell phone fundraising drive. There is nothing for you to buy or sell to participate. We simply ask that you donate your extra inactive cell phones to our drive. This drive will benefit your family, your church, and the environment by keeping harmful materials the phone contain out of our landfill. The collection box is in the back of church. A Tax Deductible Receipt for you is located on the box.

St. Margaret’s Altar Guild
The Altar Guild is a very rewarding way to show your devotion to God and our parish. It is beneficial to the whole parish to have and maintain an active and dedicated Altar Guild. The next meeting will be held in September (watch the service bulletin for details). There are two important meetings held every spring and fall. New members of any gender are always welcome!
Casa Maria Soup Kitchen
Interested in spending 2 hours in a group setting preparing sack lunches for 500 of Tucson’s people in need? Many hands are needed for this worthwhile cause. Meet in the Parish Center on scheduled Fridays at 6:00 p.m. Dates for the remainder of 2009 are: August 28, September 25, October 23, November 20, and December 18.
St. Teresa’s ECW (Episcopal Church Women)
ECW is an organization formed for all the women mem bers of St. Michael’s. The ECW women are involved in many fun activities and worthy projects. Meetings are typically held the third Wednesday of the month, starting at 10:30 am, from September through June. Each meeting will host a guest speaker from the Tucson community. The 2009-2010 kickoff meeting will be held Wednesday, September 16, is a pot-luck luncheon with a free door prize to be given away to the attending lucky person. Sign-up sheet will be located in the back of the church; bring a friend — make new friends. Dates for the remainder of 2009 are: September 16, October 21, November 18, and December 16.
Fellowship Luncheon
Consider joining a group of delightful company and conversation, plus a delicious lunch catered by EnJoy Catering, the fourth Monday of the month starting at 11:30 a.m. in the Parish Center. Cost is only $10 per person. Sign-up sheets are located in the back of the church. Dates for the remainder of 2009 are: August 24, September 28, October 26, November 23, and December 28.
Lectionary Study
You are invited to study the Lectionary every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the Parish Center. Peter Schmidt leads this study using the Synthesis CE—a Lectionary Study Guide in the Episcopal tradition—which stimulates discussion and understanding of the Revised Common Lectionary.
Novel Theology Book Club
Become an active bookworm by joining this book club once a month (dates TBA) at one of the book club member’s home. Books are reviewed with stimulating conversation and good company. Books and study guides are provided.
Primavera Shelter Meal
This program serves 120 homeless men the second Sunday of each month. There is always a need for new cooks and occasional backup for the ongoing dedicated and well-organized team (food preparation and responsibilities are divided). Come and join the team! Dates for the remainder of 2009 are: August 9, September 13, October 11, November 15, and December 13.
Quilting, Knitting, and Handwork Group
This crafty group comes together the second Saturday of the month at 11:00 a.m. in the Parish Center. Attendees are requested to bring their project(s) a sack lunch, and a beverage. Dates for the remainder of 2009 are: August 8, September 12, October 10, November 14, and December 12.

“8000 DRUMS” Ceremony. There was a prophecy, written in a cave in Mexico, 500 years ago, that stated, “when 8000 drums play together, an intense healing of Mother Earth can commence. The Desert Crones are having a drumming at St. Michael’s labyrinth on Sunday June 21st (summer solstice) from 12 noon to 1 pm. Everyone is invited.

Casa Maria will meet at 6PM on Friday, May 8th in the Parish Center. We make 500 lunches for distribution to the poor, homeless, and out of work people in our community. Bring a dozen, (or two) hard-boiled (and shelled) eggs for the egg salad sandwiches. Come share in this effort and you’ll go home alive in the Spirit! All are welcome; bring your friends!

Announcements for Holy Week Ending April 12, 2009
Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday - The calendar below lists the complete schedule of services and other events. You are urged to make every effort to attend these most solemn services of the Christian year. These services have a wonderful cathartic effect and will truly make your Easter very joyful and special.
Last call for Easter Flower donations – – please include your donation in the envelope in your pledge card box or make certain your donation is clearly marked for “flowers” and place it in the offering basket.
The Maundy Thursday service begins in the Parish Center with a Seder meal representing the Lord's Supper, including the Washing of the Feet. We then proceed to the Church for the remainer of the High Mass, ending with the procession to the Altar of Repose and the Stripping of the Altars. Please sign up on the dinner sign-up sheet located on the ushers' cabinet.
Altar of Repose - the schedule for a Watch before the Altar of Repose still has blank spaces. Be sure to sign up to spend some time with Our Lord in prayer and meditation between Holy Thursday and the Good Friday liturgy.
Good Friday service - Noon to 3 PM - Service of Reflection on the Seven Last Words of Jesus, spoken from the Cross - the Rev. Carey Womble will lead this meditation. Confessions also will be heard during this time and at other scheduled times during Holy Week.
Bring and ring your bells - participate in ringing your very own bells throughout the Gloria, along with a great organ fanfare and singing, at the Easter Vigil service.
Easter Vigil break-fast - everyone is invited to the Parish Center to break the fast and welcome the newly baptized after the Easter Vigil service. Special dishes of eggs, fruit and hot cross buns will be served. Sign-up sheet is located on the ushers' cabinet.
Rise and shine! - Please note that due to the Easter Vigil service, we will not have the 5:00 PM Mass on the Sunday of the Resurrection0 Eadter Day.

ST. MICHAEL’S DESERT GARDEN - Have you noticed a new desert garden? It is located on the east side just before you enter the main walkway to the church. Evan Chapman designed the garden for a science project. Evan is in 5th grade here at St. Michael’s Parish Day School. The garden will be dedicated on Earth Day – April 22, 2009. Won’t you join us near the garden on Wednesday April 22 for the dedication, readings and prayer service at 8:05 AM? Casa Maria - as a special way to give yourself this Holy Week, join us at 4:00 PM (5:00 PM is okay too) for Casa Maria sandwich-making in the Parish Center on Good Friday, April 10th. It's a great way to give of yourself for the good of others. Casa Maria will be over in time for attendance at the 7 PM Solemn Liturgy of Good Friday.
THE BISHOP HAS DESIGNATED APRIL 26 TO BE ALLELUIA FUND SUNDAY. This marks the fourth annual Bishop’s diocesan-wide appeal highlighting the crucial need to support new church plants and new growth initiatives in existing churches through the Alleluia Fund. During Easter week, everyone on the diocesan mailing list will receive via direct mail a brochure detailing the work of the Alleluia fund, along with an offering envelope. You can return the envelope with your offering on April 26 during the service, or you can mail it directly to the Bishop’s office. In this way, you can be part of the vital work of mission right here in Arizona.
St. Michael’s is collecting toiletries for TIHAN clients who are unable to work. These toiletries may include shampoo, toothpaste, brushes and floss, shaving cream, band-aids, deodorant, disposable razors, skin lotions and sunscreen. Please leave your donations in the box in the back of church. We thank you for your generosity for this worthy endeavor.

CASA MARIA VOLUNTEERS WILL MEET THIS FRIDAY, MARCH 13TH at 6:00 PM, in the Parish Center to prepare sack lunches. Your help is needed - the volunteers can always use a few extra hands and a dozen or two SHELLED hard-boiled eggs. Be a GOOD EGG and join them for fellowship and to help with this good work.
St. Michael’s will co-host TIHAN’s (Tucson Interfaith HIV/AIDS Network) POZ Café on Thursday March 19. Volunteers are needed for preparing and serving the meal that day (8:30 am – 2:30 pm).

St. Michael’s school is looking for volunteers to help with lunch and playground duties, particularly on Mondays and Tuesdays. Assisting with lunch takes place from 11:30am to 12:30pm and simply involves hand out or serving food to the children. Playground supervision extends to 1 pm and requires keeping an eye on the children in the park behind the school. Volunteers may serve in pairs or alternate sharing a position if that is easier. Both positions provide a chance to get to know the wonderful children at our Parish School!

Mark the date: Saturday, March 7th – 8:00 am to 3:30 pm for the Annual Episcopal Diocese of Arizona’s 2009 Ministry Fair. This year the Ministry Fair is larger than ever. Due to this expansion, the Ministry Fair will be held at Washington High School in north central Phoenix close to the freeway. There are a record numbers of offerings including everything from workshops for new Vestry members, to the latest proven techniques for youth work and stewardship. The deadline for registration was February 10th, but late entries may be possible if you act now. (There is childcare for children of the participants but does require pre-registration.) Brochures and registration forms are available in the Church office.
