Announcements for Holy Week Ending April 12, 2009

Announcements

Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday - The calendar below lists the complete schedule of services and other events. You are urged to make every effort to attend these most solemn services of the Christian year. These services have a wonderful cathartic effect and will truly make your Easter very joyful and special.

Last call for Easter Flower donations – – please include your donation in the envelope in your pledge card box or make certain your donation is clearly marked for “flowers” and place it in the offering basket.

The Maundy Thursday service begins in the Parish Center with a Seder meal representing the Lord's Supper, including the Washing of the Feet. We then proceed to the Church for the remainer of the High Mass, ending with the procession to the Altar of Repose and the Stripping of the Altars. Please sign up on the dinner sign-up sheet located on the ushers' cabinet.

Altar of Repose - the schedule for a Watch before the Altar of Repose still has blank spaces. Be sure to sign up to spend some time with Our Lord in prayer and meditation between Holy Thursday and the Good Friday liturgy.

Good Friday service - Noon to 3 PM - Service of Reflection on the Seven Last Words of Jesus, spoken from the Cross - the Rev. Carey Womble will lead this meditation. Confessions also will be heard during this time and at other scheduled times during Holy Week.

Bring and ring your bells - participate in ringing your very own bells throughout the Gloria, along with a great organ fanfare and singing, at the Easter Vigil service.

Easter Vigil break-fast - everyone is invited to the Parish Center to break the fast and welcome the newly baptized after the Easter Vigil service. Special dishes of eggs, fruit and hot cross buns will be served. Sign-up sheet is located on the ushers' cabinet.

Rise and shine! - Please note that due to the Easter Vigil service, we will not have the 5:00 PM Mass on the Sunday of the Resurrection0 Eadter Day.

ST. MICHAEL’S DESERT GARDEN - Have you noticed a new desert garden? It is located on the east side just before you enter the main walkway to the church. Evan Chapman designed the garden for a science project. Evan is in 5th grade here at St. Michael’s Parish Day School. The garden will be dedicated on Earth Day – April 22, 2009. Won’t you join us near the garden on Wednesday April 22 for the dedication, readings and prayer service at 8:05 AM? We thank Evan and the 5th grade for making a beautiful contribution to St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church and Parish Day School!

Opportunities for Giving

Casa Maria - as a special way to give yourself this Holy Week, join us at 4:00 PM (5:00 PM is okay too) for Casa Maria sandwich-making in the Parish Center on Good Friday, April 10th. It's a great way to give of yourself for the good of others. Casa Maria will be over in time for attendance at the 7 PM Solemn Liturgy of Good Friday.

THE BISHOP HAS DESIGNATED APRIL 26 TO BE ALLELUIA FUND SUNDAY. This marks the fourth annual Bishop’s diocesan-wide appeal highlighting the crucial need to support new church plants and new growth initiatives in existing churches through the Alleluia Fund. During Easter week, everyone on the diocesan mailing list will receive via direct mail a brochure detailing the work of the Alleluia fund, along with an offering envelope. You can return the envelope with your offering on April 26 during the service, or you can mail it directly to the Bishop’s office. In this way, you can be part of the vital work of mission right here in Arizona.

St. Michael’s is collecting toiletries for TIHAN clients who are unable to work. These toiletries may include shampoo, toothpaste, brushes and floss, shaving cream, band-aids, deodorant, disposable razors, skin lotions and sunscreen. Please leave your donations in the box in the back of church. We thank you for your generosity for this worthy endeavor.
